DS Kim

D.S. Kim was born on August 15th, 1961. As his grandfather was an art professor at a local University, it could be said that art was an inborn talent D.S. Kim had within himself.

While in middle school, his art teacher noticed his talent in art and recommended further training. At that time he began experimenting with pastels and watercolors.

After furthering his art studies, D.S. Kim graduated from Pusan Art High School. In 1983, Kim received a degree from the Dong A. University of Art. In 1985 he became an art instructor for the Art Institute in Korea, where he worked for three years.  In 1986, Kim exhibited in Seoul Gallery as a member of the Seoul International Artists Association.  In 1987, he participated in and painted abroad in the Artist Exchange Europe for study and development in his sketches and paintings.  In 1989 he resided in Paris, France and the province of South France.  In 1990 Kim stayed in Paris and participated in art exhibitions, including exhibits at Avignon Gallery and The Vincent Gallery.

His art reflects a love of the Mediterranean region with its red-roofed homes and hillside villas, beaches and gentle shorelines. His travels to France can be seen in many of his paintings.

In 1991 he participated in ‘The Great Art Exhibition’ for the Korean government.  In 1993 Kim exhibited as a member of a realistic and modern art group in the Seoul Realistic Art Exhibit.  Since early 1997, Kim has traveled throughout the United States further developing and creating sketches and paintings.  Kim currently finds inspiration and refuge in marshes and coastal waters of South Carolina and Florida.

Kim has works on public display at many public locations around the world and is within many private collections in Asia, Europe and the U.S.A.
